This has traditionally been one of the biggest events of the year for AWC and is one of the few events when paddlers from all skill levels can paddle together.

On Saturday, the fun begins with trips to four different rivers, each suited for beginner, intermediate, or advanced paddlers. Afterward, everyone convenes for a feast and overnight camping. Sunday there is an all-skills paddle for everyone.

Please register to the left if you plan on attending Three Rivers Weekend.  We need a good head count for each trip and we need to know how much BBQ to get for Saturday's dinner.  As always, guest are welcome.

Rivers for Saturday August 21st:

  • Tuckaseegee River (Class II | Beginner-friendly) coordinated by Laura Dillon.  Sign up by registering for the Three Rivers weekend.  If you have questions about this trip contact Laura at dillon3938@yahoo.com
  •  Nantahala River (Class II+(III) | Beginner-Intermediate) - coordinated by Chuck Spornick.  Sign up by registering for Three Rivers Weekend.  If you have questions about this trip contact Chuck at  libcds@gmail.com
  • Ocoee River (Class III-III+ | Intermediate-Advanced) coordinated by Rick Thompson.  Sign up by registering for Three Rivers Weekend.  If you have any questions about this trip contact Rick at rdt70@bellsouth.net
  • Chattooga Sect IV (Class III-IV+ | Advanced-Expert) coordinator by George Hedrick.  From Woodall Shoals to Lake Tugaloo.  Note that water level can have a big impact on the difficulty of this trip.  Very low water levels (<1.0ft) can open up the run to strong intermediate paddlers and there are lots of places to swim and explore the rapids.  Sign up by registering for Three Rivers weekend.  If you have questions about this trip contact George at abbeysroadhome@bellsouth.net
Details regarding meeting time and place for all Saturday trips will be emailed to those who register for the Three Rivers Weekend.

BBQ Dinner and Camping:

At 6:30PM we will have a BBQ dinner at Smokey Mountain Meadows campground, we will also camp there. The club is paying for camping and the club will provide the BBQ-  we ask that every one bring a side dish or desert to contribute to the dinner.  When you register for the event it will ask what you plan to bring. We'll note when we've reached a max for each item.  If you'd rather not mess with a side item or desert you can make a donation towards the food and we'll use it to fill out the meal with what seems the most needed.

For camping bring the usual suspects (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, headlamp, cooler of microbrews).  It's also a good idea to be prepared for rain- if you have a pop-up shelter bring it- we'll all thank you!  Firewood, frisbees, and foamy boaters are also a good idea.

Nantahala for Sunday:

We will end the weekend with everyone paddling the Nantahala on Sunday.  We'll announce the details for this shortly before the weekend.  Typically we organize shuttle around 10am.  You're on your own for breakfast- either make it in camp or go EARLY to River's End at the NOC.
